Retrieving Personal Macro workbook

Hello,

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered, but apparently my thought processes don't come up with the right search words. So, I apologize in advance. The problem is I have a new computer (actually, a new one that crashed and burned and they had to replace everything). I did have a current backup, so that was good. Anyway, over the years, I have developed a large number of often used macros many of which I put on the Quick Access Toolbar. After rebuilding my computer (Win 10, Office 2016) I need to bring my personal macro workbook back so it is the one attached to all Excel workbooks. How can I open the personal workbook attached to one of my saved and restored 2016 Excel workbooks? I know how to open the VBA Editor and copy and paste but, first I need to open the dang Personal Macro Workbook. It would be nice if there was a way I could just replace the new empty Personal Macro Workbook with my trusty version I have used for years.

Thanks,

George Teachman

Why not just delete the new book & replace it with the old one?

No.

I looked for Personal.XLSB in my restored files and it didn't exist. It should have been in C:\Users\george.teachman\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART, right? I did go into where our backup files are stored and found one there. I copied it and pasted it into the working XLSTART directory. It does show up in the VBE now. Is there a way to retrieve the Quick Access Toolbar?

Thanks,

Is there an .xlb file in C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel ?

The custom toolbar might require saving to recover after updates, I'm not sure if it's automatic.

If you look in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\ on you old machine for Excel.OfficeUI
You can try copying that over, but it's not something I've ever done, so cannot guarantee the result.

Thanks for the info. It took some looking (our backups are a little different), but, I did find the Excel.OfficeUI file. But, I've already rebuilt the Quick Access Toolbar. This time, though, I have exported it to a safe place, so if my solidstate drive takes a header I will have the ability to import the toolbar.

Thanks, again. Once again, the folks on this forum have come through!
