Thanks Fluff,
That is an interesting method. My list has over 1000 items and growing. I don't like the fact that I have to use data validation for the referencing.
Could there be a VBA option that will let me use user input instead of a list?

Almost certainly yes.
However I've never used images on a worksheet, so not sure how to do it.
If you want to use VBA rather than Vlookup, which you asked for.
Then you will need to start a new thread & give some more information.
