Office Version
  1. 365
Platform
  1. Windows
I have a work book that has remained unchanged in excel 2013 for years. I have moved to Office 365 and now every time the book opens I get an error and the excel book is repaired.

I then have to save as. Rename the file back to the original name and then reopen it without the error.

However, no matter what I do, the next time I open this work book I get the same error and have to repair, resave & rename.

Is there a log somewhere that shows what is being repaired so I can try and clear the problem manually?
What else could I try?

also before you go too far, disable all your addins and workbook automation, also turn off macros then open the file

as for swearing, you could try but the system converts it to asterisks or you draw the attention of moderators

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.
Disabled Add-ins & macros without luck.

What do you mean by Workbook automation?

Thanks for the effort, but no luck.

Looks like I will repair and rename this workbook every morning until I have time to recreate it.

Do not leave it too long
- Excel repair is merely "papering over the cracks"
- one day your original file may not open at all in 365
- one constant about 365 is that it is not constant
- the next MS mod could prove fatal!

If only it told me where the  crack was, i'd get a bit of filler and botch it myself.

Is excel 2019 a different product to excel 365?
Will my excel eventually be upgraded automatically to excel 2019?

Excel 2019 is essentially the subscription version frozen at a point in time to become a non-subscription version (which may be earlier or later than your current 365 depending on what release channel you're on). Your subscription version will never turn into a non-subscription version.

I guess loading the file in excel 2019 is unlikely to be a magic fix?

probably not if your 365 is always at the latest stage of release
