I need to add a conditional format to multiple rows (i.e. format a2 if a1 = value, format b2 if b1 = value, etc.) but conditional formatting requires =$A$1 so I can't just drag the formatting across cells.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.

Select the entire range to be formatted, A2:B2

Conditional Formatting
Use the "formula" option
Enter this formula in that little box: =A1=10
Select the formatting you want then OK out.

Replace 10 with whatever value you want. If the value is TEXT then it must be quoted:

=A1="Yes"

OH!! That was so close! It said it can't use relative references for colour scales, data bars or icon sets

(I'm starting to think I'm really SOL and may have to do each cell by hand...)

I never use that type of formatting so I don't know what else to suggest.
